Welcome to Cherwell Runners & Joggers

Encouraging you to enjoy running and meet new people…

We are a Banbury-based club open to runners at all levels. We are England Athletics affiliated, meaning all members are insured through England Athletics as well as receiving perks, like discounts on races. However, we know racing isn’t for everyone and we welcome and encourage both competitive and casual runners.

We understand that everyone gets something different out of running, so we encourage you to come along and find out what we can offer to support and motivate you on your running journey.

Club Nights

We have two regular club nights; Tuesdays and Thursdays. On both nights we meet at 7pm at the Woodgreen pool-side entrance (What3Words: stands.urban.scenes).

Tuesday – Tuesdays are our main social club night. There are several groups to run with, offering a range of speeds and distances. We always have run leaders available on a Tuesday, so if you’re new to the club, this is the night to come. We encourage you to come with us twice, then become a member if you wish to keep coming. Before your first session, we ask that you contact Dawn Osborne by e-mail (cherwellrunners@yahoo.co.uk) so we can arrange an appropriate run leader for you.

Thursday – Thursdays are members-only nights. Most Thursdays will follow a set hills route through Banbury. We have two groups of mixed paces because the real training is up the hill! On the First Thursday of the month, we have a coached session, which is usually communicated through our members Facebook page and at our Tuesday run session. We also occasionally do something a bit different on a Thursday, like a cross country finishing at the pub. Again, these sessions are communicated on out members Facebook page and on Tuesday nights.
I joined in 2015 having got myself from C25k to my first half marathon. I didn’t think I was a good enough runner to join a club before the half marathon. I wished I known the club is for everyone and I could have joined right at the start of my running journey.
My running is a journey of highs and lows as I fall in and out of love with it but I really value the support received and friendships formed.
